Spare Parts, Components (Short Discription)
Cylinder Head - The individual cylinder heads made of nodular cast iron are fastened to the crankcase by means of 8 bolts. The valve gear is selected by an on oil-tight light metal cover. The injector with pintle nozzle is located outside the rocker chamber cover and thus easily accessible. The oil required for lubrication of the valves and valve gear is supplied through the push rods.
Camshaft and Valve Gear - The induction-hardened camshaft runs in tri-metal bearings. The bearing at the drive end is designed as antifriction bearing and is guided the shaft. The inlet and exhaust valves are actuated by specially hardened mushroom-type tappets.
Crankshaft - The crankshaft is made of high-alloyed, tempered steel and dropforged so as not to interrupt the fibre continuity of the material structure. All bearing points are induction hardened and precision- ground. Timing gear and flywheel flange are shrunk onto the crankshaft, which has a forged-on flange for mounting the vibration damper. The counterweights are secured by screws. At the front crankshaft end are located the vibration damper and driving facilities for auxiliaries.
Connection Rod - The connecting rods which are drop-forged from tempered alloy steel are split at an angle. Connecting rod shanks and bearing caps are keyed together by tongue and groove joints.
Bearings - Gudgeon pin bush, big and bearing and main bearings, consisting of a steel back with lead bronze main running surface layer covered again by a run-in layer.
Pistons - The light-metal pistons with inserted ring carrier are equipped with two compression rings and one oil control ring. The pistons are cooled via a spray nozzle in the crankcase which continiously supplies cooling oil to the piston cooling channel.
Cylinder Liner - The cylinder liners of centrifugal cast alloy are intensively cooled up to the liner collar. Uniform cooling is ensured by the configuration of the cooling spaces and a distributor duct running one side of the engine. The duct can receive an electric preheater, if required. The water jacket is tightly sealed against the oil compartment by means of three O-rings.
